Summer Program

Summer Program

For Children with reading difficulties

Our summer program focuses on students (Grades 1 to 6) with learning disabilities (i.e., those diagnosed with dyslexia, central auditory processing disorder, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, and ADD). Through this program, we hope to achieve the following outcomes:

  1. Improved literacy levels in language and math.
  2. Improved parents’ participation in supporting their children’s early literacy and learning needs.

For Underprivileged Youth (Girls & Boys)

ACOH recognizes that although most youth want to have fun over the long summer break, this can expose them to the risk of summer slide. This is particularly more so for children & youth who reside in economically disadvantaged households and low-resource, urban neighborhoods with limited access to educational materials, as they suffer from low literacy skills. A study by NWEA (2020) found that children in 3rd to 5th grades lost, on average, about 20% of their school-year gains in reading and 27% of their school-year gains in math during summer break.

This program, therefore, exposes youth to a variety of academic learning materials and enrichment activities during the long summer break. The objectives of this program are :

  • To prevent summer slide
  • Improve reading test & comprehension scores
  • Increase math computation & understanding of concepts & applications
  • Build self-confidence and self-esteem both in school and within the community.
